Welcome. I hope you enjoy this collection of works. My paintings are now a far cry from the thunderous album cover days of the 70s, tranquil moonlight landscapes of the 80s, and 90s, infact, even the musical interplays of "Marginal Movements" and "Sylvan Droplet Variations" of recent exhibitions, are falling away to the momentum of my current studio research. All of the above however are places I revisit from time to time, they are integral to the balance and discipline within these immaginative concepts. The door is wide open regarding figurative or abstract themes, the narrow path I walk though is a long straight one, composed of peace, colour and harmony. The home page on this website is an attempt to convey the substance of my introduction for you, also, the feelgood factor I believe is so essential for the process of creative thought.
I recall a conversation with my dear friend and mentor the late Stefan Knapp, renowned Polish born Sculpter and Enamelist. It was my privilige to be his studio assistant from 1978-1981. We were contemplating one of his huge enamels one afternoon and he said, " The mark of a great painting Willy is when it still works upside down!" We both laughed, and after some thought I said....."well..... hows this one doing then?" His reply remains a constant endeavour in my working process. "I search for a visual truth Willy, its like searching for the proverbial needle in the haystack!, but....... I do think I am getting warmer." Recently, after having spent many years in the visual arts, I dare to say there have been wonderful moments while painting, that I understand exactly what he meant.
I hope you enjoy this show.
