Other Album Work

All of the following album covers were worked on while working with CCS advertising associates, from 1969-1971. CCS was a leading creative design team in London producing promotional ideas and album cover artwork for, A&M, Chrysalis, Charisma, Island Records and the Reggae Trojan label. At the height of the Reggae boom in the 70s CCS produced 3 Reggae albums a week! (Does anyone out there have “Reggae Reggae Reggae” Various artists, and “Freedom” Clancy Eccles, both on the Trojan label? I would like to include them as a photo record.)

Audience / Friends Friends Friends/Charisma/1970
This was a composite idea between the band and William. His first album painting, a gatefold completed in inks. The cover depicts the title track of the album, a Pied Piper concept with a twist, ...or two.

Spooky Tooth / The Last Puff./Island records/1970
......Layout and  hand lettering

Mick Abrahams / A musical Evening/Mick Abrahams/Chrysalis1971
-----This was mostly airbrushing and layout, with the supply of an old Guildford art school party poster to arrange the lettering. A strong visual even today.

Return of Django / The Upsetters/Trojan label.1969
The art direction for this album was done on location in Albury Surrey.England.  Some of the sounds on the title track sounded like the whinney of a horse, hence the splendid white one on the gatefold cover, not a bad album either, and a great day out! Very rare now.  The single made No 6 in the charts of 1969.

Funky Chicken / various artists/Trojan label/1969
Just fun with hand lettering, solving a visual assignment purely with words

Fire Corner / The Dynamites/Trojan label 1969
--------The very first album cover by William. The lettering moves when the cover is shaken in a dark room.

Commissioned artwork, details of excisting paintings, or paintings and prints for reproduction to cd or music promotion, is still available by the artist on request from the studio.
