Originally a studio research project of 20 4"x 4" texture and water themes painted with a limited palette of 3 colours: Paynes Grey, Raw Umber and Prussian Blue. All of the paintings were produced as one work, and not as a compilation of individual studies. In 2001, three of the paintings were selected to form the basis of new works having the possibility of abstract and figurative ambiguity, the 2nd, 10th and 14th. As a result, this direction has become the foundation of a major new exhibition at the Gracefield Art Centre in Dumfries. The Exhibition This exhibition combined the work experience as studio assistant to his late friend and mentor Stefan Knapp (1921-1996) in Le Lavendo, Provence, France, and Witley, Surrey, England, 1979-1982. 1970s progressive rock album concepts and water themes together with ambient sound will also support the show. The exhibition entitled "Marginal Movements" ran from June 30th to August 12th 2007. Project Updates The updates below were issued as the project progressed and provide further information: August 2006 |
